Absolute Radio: Discover real music

Over the years Russia has become more and more westernised, but they don't share our history, they can sing the songs but will they ever really understand the English bitter sweet humour in Ray Davis's lyrics or even in Paul Weller's total English songs. They can listen and enjoy but comprihend, i Don't think so

I agree. If you tried to do some kinda brit-pop thing in Russia, no one would buy it cos you'd just be copying what made British music British. No other culture should touch another culture's music- it's not the original- enjoy it at its best rather than trying to create a dodgy substitute...

I belive it's a cultural problem, They do not share the passion of the rock as the british do, even the americans. For example, here in Mexico Brit music is very well known, not for nothing, all the brit band that had became here are surprised by the audiance, it a cultural matter I strongly belive. To assist Javi, definitely listen to and enjoy Britpop and let it influence your music making. Mexico is having a fantastic crop of Rock bands, albeit they sing in Spanish, nevertheless, they are making some fine Rock and Roll, right now... And loads of top UK acts tour in Mexico, coincidence?

Interesting topic! I have some Russian friends, and I really do not think that they totally "get" pop music. It has not been all that long since the USSR collapsed, and those (depressing, angry, frustrated) still seem to exist. At least they do amongst the Russian ex-pats here in the States.
